Our Story: 2001 — A Call to Action and the End of Business as Usual

Inspired by the tragic events of September 11th and the continuing problems and bad image of the telecommunications industry at that time, Jim Kenefick and Matt Bauer, set out in early 2002, determined to do something good.

Having witnessed firsthand the many ups, downs and frustrations of the evolving telecom industry for well over a decade — they pooled all they had learned and set out to chart a new course — to build a new kind of telecommunications company from the ground up. Integrating top talent, partners and technology all with an uncompromising social mission — the result was the formation of BetterWorld Telecom in early 2003.

A new voice in the $900 billion per year world of communications, BetterWorld Telecom, in just a few short years, has become the only nationwide voice and data provider that focuses on serving small businesses, enterprises and organizations that have social and sustainable missions such as Patagonia, Greenpeace, Mercy Corps and Seventh Generation. We've taken a different road from the rest of the industry as we grow our customers through referrals and meaningful partnerships with organizations that are invested in making the world a better place for future generations.

We have developed and proven, simple and unique business model that involves partnering with nationwide network and technology infrastructure partners — avoiding the large capital expenditures and overhead associated with building our own network, equipment and personnel to manage these resources — especially with an oversupply of communications networks due to technology advancement. This model enables BetterWorld Telecom to provide our clients with 20%-30% cost savings nationwide — enabling us to focus on providing them with integrated solutions, accurate billing, service delivery, management reporting, customer care and cost containment.
