The BetterWorld Voice — February/March 2008 Issue

Using Telecoms to Reduce Your Organization’s Footprint

In the coming months, we will be publishing an article and featuring products (see Conferencing article below) that you can use or implement to both green your organization’s supply chain and physical footprint. With the US telecom industry trailing far behind the green dialogue that has now pervaded most other major industries, BetterWorld has decided to forge new ground and help to create a positive and forward-thinking discussion that can help to create impact in this nearly trillion dollar industry.

As an organization, there are two major categories to consider how telecoms can begin to lighten your footprint. First, is how your organization currently works. Do you encourage telecommuting? How much travel is necessary? Utilizing newer technologies such as virtual PBX and VoIP can help to unify an organization and make working from home or remote offices seamless to your employees and external stakeholders. New advances in conferencing help to now make voice/web/video conferencing easier and cheaper than ever — helping to reduce air travel and local travel.

In addition, Virtual PBX and VoIP can help to also reduce your physical footprint, including wiring, equipment, power usage, etc. Instead of having a separate office infrastructure for voice services and data services, it is now very common to run them over one, converged set of equipment and wiring. Less infrastructure and less power is better for your bottom line and the environment.

See our highlight below this month on conferencing and look for similar pieces soon, we’ll send along the article once completed and look forward to your comments and questions. Please contact us at wecare@betterworldtelecom.com if you want to begin the process of further greening your telecom services with BetterWorld.
