At BetterWorld Telecom we donate a total of 3% of company revenues to organizations that benefit children, education, fair trade and the environment. Over the past five years, we have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars and our goal is to be donating $1M per year by the 2012. Here is a sample of some of the organizations we currently donate to or support on a regular basis:
Bainbridge Graduate Institute
Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI) prepares students from diverse backgrounds to build enterprises that are financially successful, socially responsible and environmentally sustainable. But BGI means this mission in the broader sense – not only preparing their own students, but also helping other business schools integrate sustainability (i.e., environmental and social responsibility) into the heart of their programs.
One Percent For The Planet
Since 2002, 1% For The Planet has inspired members of the business community to contribute 1% of sales to environmental groups around the world. In return, this growing alliance of companies is given the opportunity not only to see their self-worth rise, but their net worth climb as well. 1 % For The Planet is about businesses recognizing that industry and ecology are inherently connected and understanding that the true cost of doing business can be mitigated by a simple pledge to the planet.
Green For All
Green For All is a national organization dedicated to building an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty. By advocating for local, state and federal commitment to job creation, job training and entrepreneurial opportunities in the emerging green economy – especially for people from disadvantaged communities – Green For All fights both poverty and pollution at the same time.
Business Alliance for Local Living Economies
The Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) is North America's fastest-growing network of socially responsible businesses, comprised of more than 80 community networks with over 21,000 independent business members across the U.S. and Canada. BALLE brings together independent business leaders, economic development professionals, government officials, social innovators and community leaders to build local living economies.
The Orion Society
The Orion Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization supported by donations from individuals, families and foundations and corporate and government grants. The Orion Society's mission is to inform, inspire and engage individuals and grassroots organizations in becoming a significant cultural force for healing nature and community.
Ella Baker Center for Human Rights
Decades of disinvestment in our cities have led to despair and hopelessness. For poor communities, it's even worse. The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights is a strategy and action center working for justice, opportunity and peace in urban America. Based in Oakland, California, we promote positive alternatives to violence and incarceration through our four cutting-edge campaigns.
The Fair Trade Federation
Fair Trade Federation (FTF) is an association of fair trade wholesalers, retailers and producers whose members are committed to providing fair wages and good employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged artisans and farmers.
